Statement on the Death of The Revd Mark Morton
It is with profound sadness that I heard on Tuesday of the sudden death of Mark Morton. In the shock of this news, our immediate thoughts and prayers are with Mark’s wife, Sharron, his daughter Esther and the rest of the family, as well as with the parish and people of Harting with Elsted and Treyford cum Didling.
Mark was ordained in the Peterborough Diocese in 1992, serving his curacy in Daventry. Thereafter, he became a Chaplain in the Royal Artillery where he served with distinction undertaking tours of duty in Bosnia, Kosovo and Northern Ireland. In 2011, he became Rector of Harting with Elsted and Treyford cum Didling, where he thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of rural ministry. He was a passionate preacher and teacher of the faith both of which were much appreciated in the parish as were his organisational skills.
We give thanks for the vitality of his life and Christian witness, commending him to the God he served so faithfully. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
