Diocesan Synod
Youth work, wellbeing, finance and looking to the future are just some of the items on the agenda for members of the Chichester Diocesan Synod when they gather for their summer meeting at East Sussex College, Lewes on Saturday 18 May.
The Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, will open proceedings with a special service at which he will give what is known as his “Presidential address” to Synod members.
Laity and clergy are elected as synod members from across the Diocese and meet to discuss mission and ministry as well as issues affecting the wider community.
Gabrielle Higgins, Diocesan Secretary, said today : “The May Synod provides members with updates in respect of many areas of our work as a Diocese, as well as giving us an opportunity to say some important goodbyes.”
Indeed, the Synod will have a chance to thank Matthew Chinery, who is moving to pastures new after serving as Diocesan Registrar since 2013 and to Margaret Gibson, who has been the Bishop of Chichester’s Personal Assistant and who is now retiring.
The Synod will hear about plans for the future of the Diocese in terms of mission from the Bishop of Lewes, Richard Jackson, as well as a report of proceedings at the most recent meeting of the General Synod of the Church of England.
