Dr Martin Warner today paid tribute to Professor James (Jimmy) Dunn whose death has been announced by his family: “Jimmy Dunn was a scholar and a teacher whose Christian commitment to his discipline was as infectious as it was instructive. In large measure this flowed from his human qualities of courtesy and kindness. And his sense of humour.

"We shall continue to value the record of his learning but we shall greatly miss the man.

"Our prayers and sympathy are for his wife Meta and the family. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. “
