New Chapel dedicated.
Hospital Chaplains from across the Trust gathered to mark the opening of The Sanctuary, a new welcoming space that replaced a former chapel at Worthing hospital.
The features of the new space include a chapel, quiet room, prayer room, kitchen and garden.
Bishop Will dedicated The Sanctuary and said: "It was a privilege to dedicate the Sanctuary at Worthing Hospital and rejoice in all the hope and support that the chaplaincy team share with the patients and staff. "
The former chapel moved to temporary accommodation at the end of 2019 in preparation for a move to a new location as part of a capital development project. Although the team were able to move into the new space earlier this year, the finishing touches have now been completed and the space is officially ready to be used by all.
The chapel is a stopping place, a learning place and a sharing place amongst peers and a safe place. Smaller groups meet from time to time, including AA and CA groups that meet out of hours.
The space will offer sanctuary to staff, patients and visitors seeking refuge and hospitality within our hospital, irrespective of faith or religion.
The Sanctuary also features creative gifts that have been incorporated into the design and construction of this space, including interior art and design created by Polly Meynell, and Luc Harvengt, who designed the garden decking area.
