New Officer for Lay Ministry and Training announced
Gregory Moore has been appointed the Diocesan Officer for Lay Ministry and Training. He is currently Fundraising Adviser and Church Buildings Officer for the diocese.
Canon Rebecca Swyer, Director for Apostolic Life, says: “It’s a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Gregory Moore as Officer for Lay Ministry and Training.” In this role, Greg will oversee the enabling of lay Christians to grow in faith, helping them discern the ministries to which they may be called, and training and equipping them to carry these out.
Greg is currently Fundraising Adviser and Church Buildings Officer for the diocese. Prior to working for the diocese from 2017, Greg was a teacher and tutor, at Brighton College and Sussex University, alongside a career as a professional musician following on from Cambridge University. He’s engaged in theological study in a variety of ways over many years, something that’s fostered his own faith and sense of calling as a lay Christian.
Commenting on his appointment, Greg said: “ Lay vocations and ministry are hugely important in the Church of England. We all know the myriad ways in which laity help and support their parish clergy. The role of laity in the church is crucial for fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and effective Christian community, whatever your tradition within the church may be, and wherever you’re from, be it an urban or more rural setting. We are a very diverse diocese, and each of us brings unique gifts and perspectives.”
Beyond work, Greg conducts a chamber choir, plays the organ, and is a keen allotmenteer. Greg takes up his new role on Easter Tuesday, April 22nd.
Please join us in welcoming Greg to his new role.
