Incumbent of Heathfield
The Bishop of Chichester as patron seeks an inspiring, collaborative and community-focused priest and pastor for this prominent parish in East Sussex.
The parish of Heathfield lies in the middle of the East Sussex High Weald, within easy reach of the South Downs and south coast. It includes a growing town with a thriving high street, outlying villages, hamlets and farms (pop. 10,000).
There are two parish churches: the fourteenth century All Saints in the village of Old Heathfield, and the twentieth century St Richard’s, built to serve the needs of the town. In addition, there is a modern chapel of ease, St George’s in the hamlet of Broad Oak.
Worship (USA 65) is predominantly eucharistic, and in the central tradition of the Church of England, with an established choral tradition. On Sundays it currently alternates between St Richard’s and All Saints, with occasional additional services at St George’s.
There are strong links with All Saints and St Richard’s Voluntary Aided School in Old Heathfield, currently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, as well as with a variety of other local schools and institutions.
The Vicarage is a spacious and light-filled modern house, close to St Richard’s Church and the town centre.
For an informal conversation, please contact the Archdeacon of Hastings, the Ven Dr Edward Dowler on archhastings@chichester.anglican.org.
